Pogba-Ronaldo Swap: Which Club Benefit the Most From This Deal?

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Paul Pogba’s status at Manchester United has been a hot topic for the last few weeks. Manchester United extended his contract until 2022 but many agree that Pogba should be off to a new club in the next transfer window.

A day before their 2-3 loss to RB Leipzig, Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola, stated that the player was not happy at the club.

Pogba joined United in 2016 for a then world-record fee of €105 million (£89.3 million) from Juventus. It has been a bumpy ride and Pogba never reached the heights he wanted to.

His last two seasons have been plagued with injuries which resulted in limited game time. The emergence of Bruno Fernandes meant that Pogba was no more the star of the club.

Pogba to Juventus?

Pogba was a superstar at Juventus and was named the golden boy of Europe. He even won the FIFA World Cup Best Young Player award at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

However, things were never the same after he joined Manchester United, his youth club. The first two seasons were alright but the following season were ones to dread.

A rift with the then manager Jose Mourinho, ankle injuries and heavy criticism over his discipline. Manchester United were left wondering if they had made the right gamble.

Even though all of this, Pogba was a prime target for top clubs. Real Madrid, Barcelona, and even Juventus closely monitoring his situation at Manchester. The club even rejected a £27.6 million swap deal with Real Madrid for James Rodriguez.

Pogba and Ronaldo Swap Deal?

Ronaldo emerged at Old Trafford. The Portuguese was splitting defences in the Premier League when he was just 19. A fantastic career is what followed.

He has played for Real Madrid(2009-2018) and is currently at Juventus(2018- ). He has played with some of the finest footballers of history. At 35, he might be looking to come back to the place where everything started.

Ronaldo’s performance has never dipped in his career. In his 99 games for Juventus, he has scored 77 goals. He scored his 750th career goal last week. Pogba in the same time period scored 19 in 83 games, 16 of which came in the 18/19 season.

Juventus are planning to go all-in for the Pogba deal, even stating that they are ‘not against’ swapping Ronaldo for him. Even Dybala seems to be on the line though United are not keen on the move.

Juventus may just be the team for Pogba to thrive. At 27, he has a lot more time playing his best football.

The deal might not seem even but given their respective ages, it seems satisfactory. No swap deal with Ronaldo or Messi would seem fair. Pogba may just be the closest rival for an even deal.
