Juventus offers a contract to Memphis Depay

Barcelona

Memphis Depay‘s future looks set to be decided as Juventus have come in with a contract for the 28-year-old. The Italians are looking for an Alvaro Morata replacement in the market as the Spaniard looks set to stay in Madrid. Depay has been approached by Juventus to sign for them this season. The dutchman’s future is not resolved yet but it is clear that Xavi does not count on him. Depay was Barcelona’s top scorer last season after having signed as a free agent.

But Juventus have refused to pay any money for Depay. This has begun the negotiations for the termination of Depay’s contract. Several meetings have been held with his agents and things seem to go well. Juventus have come in with a contract of 2 years plus an option to increase it for another year. Depay was reluctant to leave unless a top club offered for him. Barcelona are also eager to get him off the wage bill.

The Catalans are having problems registering their new signings. They have to adjust their wage bill according to the salary limit set by La Liga. The Catalans currently have to offload a lot of players if they want to have a full squad ready for their La Liga game against Vallecano. Depay, Braithwaite, and Frenkie De Jong are all looking set to leave the club. They already lost Paulo Dybala and so are looking to bolster their squad by getting Depay.

Juventus Looking To Challenge For Serie A This Season

The Bianconeri have not had the best couple of seasons recently. The Serie A giants have not won the title in 2 seasons and were barely able to make the top 4. They lost Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer window of last season. This season they have lost Chiellini , De Ligt and Paulo Dybala. The squad is looking quite thin and Juventus know they have to make moves in the market. They have signed 2 new central defenders as well as Angel Di Maria.

Depay would eventually make Juventus contenders for the title to battle the likes of AC Milan and Inter Milan. He knows he would not get much playing time at Barcelona given the number of attackers they have got. So, it makes a lot of sense for Depay to switch clubs. Depay would come as a free agent as his termination of the contract at Barcelona would require long negotiations. Depay’s agents and Barcelona are in contact over the last few days to come to a solution.
