Juventus President Agnelli resigns after Super League blowout

The European Super League lasted just 48 hours. Following the news of the suspension of the new European Super League, another speculation spread around the world that Juventus president Andrea Agnelli has resigned from the president of the Bianconeri

Agnelli was the vice-chairman of the new controversial breakaway competition European Super League. The 45-year-old Club President was one of the leading heads behind this closed competition. Among the other American businessmen owned English top teams. 

Agnelli was a close friend of the UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin who criticized the Juventus president. The Juventus president helped to plan the breakaway league all while serving as President of the European Club Association and on the board of UEFA.

Agnelli resigns from his post at Juventus

Following the suspension of the European Super League announcement. The Independent journalist Miguel Delaney claimed Agnelli was planning to step down from his role as Juventus boss. However, Italia journalist Fabrizio Romano denied the rumours about the resignation.

I’m not leaving the club and who says the opposite brings me luck” – Agnelli told Repubblica.

Chelsea and Manchester City were the two teams that took the first initiative to withdraw from playing in the competition. Soon after Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Tottenham Hotspur released statements and confirmed their decision to not take part in the competition. 

Inter Milan from Serie A have already announced their decision. And also Atletico Madrid from La Liga made it official that they won’t take part in the European Super League. 

There are consequences to this debacle already. The Chief Executive of Manchester United, Ed Woodward has already resigned from his position and he will leave the club at the end of this year. The rumors are coming from Spain that people want Real Madrid President Florentino Pérez to resign as well. 

The World of football has been hectic in the past couple of days. However, the winner of this battle became the football fans.
