Juventus now ahead of Barcelona for the signature of Liverpool’s Wijnaldum.
The 29-year old Dutch midfielder who currently plays for Liverpool has made 177 staggering appearances with a handy contribution of 18 goals and 16 assists for the Reds, accounting for 21 this season where he has registered only a goal in those appearances.
His contract, however, runs till June 2021 and as of now, there has been no news that has emerged regarding his contract being extended therefore this has fueled speculations that he may be on the move in the upcoming transfer window.
Juventus to closely monitor Wijnaldum to hold their pace
Barcelona’s manager Ronald Koeman had kept a tab on the player since last summer and they thought they would be able to lure him away from Liverpool last summer however a transfer couldn’t go through due to financial issues the club was facing.
Hence a transfer for the midfielder failed to go through. But, the player attracted huge attention from other clubs to restore a winning profile. Replacing the player might create an opportunity for young and vibrant players in the upcoming Transfer Window.
Despite Barcelona being the only suitors willing to sign him, reports have suggested that Juventus are ready to battle it out with Barcelona over the signing of the Dutch midfielder.
Bayern Munich and Juventus are on the hunt to sign a central midfielder who can link up the midfield and the attack as efficiently as possible. The midfielder has gone a long way after being relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2016/17 season with Newcastle United.
Barcelona is in a critical situation, suggesting the squad to reinforce for a midfielder this summer. They are on the verge of losing Ivan Rakitic and Arturo Vidal at the end of this season on the same bout. Therefore they have shortlisted a few midfielders who can meet their midfield requirements and one of them is Wijnaldum.
Bayern Munich on the other hand could expect the departure of Corentin Tolisso. With Javi Martinez in his early thirties and former Liverpool star, Philippe Coutinho would set to return for Barcelona, making Wijnaldum a viable target is a clear vision for the club.
In spite of facing stiff competition from Barcelona, Juventus and Bayern Munich are favorites to sign the midfielder as they have already started talks with Liverpool regarding Wijnaldums acquisition.
According to the reports, the Reds are still trying their best to hold him on line, despite receiving suggestions that he is the vicinity of penning a renewal.
Therefore it would be interesting to see where Wijnaldum lands up as there could still be a chance of him being offered a contract extension by Liverpool or he could face a situation of heading to another club so at this stage nothing can be ruled out.
