As things stand, it seems like Karim Benzema will remain sidelined when Real Madrid take on PSG next Tuesday, according to a report by MARCA. Spanish media outlets like Onda Cero report that Madrid are anxious. They seem to have come to terms with the fact that even if Benzema did make it back, he would be far from his usual 100%.

The Real skipper has been crucial to the performance of the club in the league and European success this term. He has registered 24 goals in 28 appearances in all competitions.

The French striker suffered a muscle injury during Real’s game prior to the international break. Assessment at that time estimated that he might be back to take on Athletic Bilbao in the Copa del Rey quarterfinal. Unfortunately, he was unable to recover in time and missed out on the match.

Madrid wait with bated breath for Benzema return vs PSG

All said and done, Los Blancos have a nervy fixture away at Villarreal next Saturday and will be without Benzema. While Vinicius has now recovered and will make a return to the squad. The Brazilian’s presence will no doubt be a major boost. However, Benzema is a key player for his side. If he does not recover in time, Madrid will miss an influential figure against PSG.

A bit of positive news arrives, however. The Frenchman will continue rehab in Real Madrid’s facilities in an attempt to ready himself for the match in Paris. Unless he rejoins the team by Sunday, Benzema will remain at the Real Madrid facility preparing to be at 100% for the second leg at the Bernabeu.

In the Champions League group stage, Los Blancos recorded 5 wins in their 6 games. Meanwhile, Paris Saint Germain took up second place in the group stage, behind Premier League titleholders Manchester City. PSG registered 3 wins in the first round with 1 loss and 2 games ending in stalemates.
