Karim Benzema might leave Real Madrid this summer

Real Madrid and Barcelona

Even a week ago, it was expected that Karim Benzema would stay at Real Madrid for another season before the club sought for a long-term replacement in the summer of 2024. But the idea has recently been called into question, as it appears like the 35-year-old could leave the Santiago Bernabeu at the end of current season.

Karim Benzema might join Al-Ittihad soon

The rumours, of course, came out of nowhere. However, it appears that Benzema has an offer to join the Saudi Pro League on the table. Cristiano Ronaldo, a former teammate, recently joined Al-Nassr, immediately enhancing the competition’s profile. Could it be Benzema’s turn now? It certainly appears to be headed that way, which will upset Real Madrid fans, as the club may be about to lose one of its most crucial players. According to Foot Mercato, Al-Ittihad’s offer convinced Benzema to leave Real Madrid this summer. In recent hours, the Frenchman informed the Spanish club of his decision to accept the offer.

Benzema has 353 goals and 165 assists for Real Madrid since arriving from Ligue 1 club Lyon in 2009. He won 25 titles with Real, including five UEFA Champions Leagues and four league titles. Benzema has been a crucial component of this Real Madrid team for nearly a decade and a half. And he has become the club’s face since Ronaldo’s departure to Juventus in the summer of 2018. Benzema believed to be set to sign a deal with Real Madrid and stay for another season. The Ballon d’Or winner appears to be leaving the club.

If Benzema does depart, the club will need to replace him with a world-class striker. In recent weeks, they have been associated with Harry Kane, Dusan Vlahovic, Victor Osimhen, and a few others. Joselu, on the other hand, is expected to join Real Madrid on loan.
