Jadon Sancho looking for a fresh start at Chelsea after a few forgettable years playing for Manchester United, has begun training at Cobham. The training staff have been playing the ex-Borussia Dortmund star at a specific position. Making it easier to understand what Maresca desires from him. With a visit to the Vitality stadium coming up, his position in training games can help us understand where he could line up for them. While the fight for starting at Chelsea looks tough, Jadon Sancho might have an edge over the others.
Jadon Sancho and his position in training games
Everyone knows what an amazing talent Jadon Sancho is. The winger was deadly for Dortmund, helping them reach the UCL final last year. His productivity on the wings is what seems to have mesmerized the Chelsea staff. They have played him at the left wing in training matches so far. With him lining at the left wing, the staff could be looking to play him alongside Jackson and Madueke in the front three. Pedro Neto and Mykhailo Mudryk along with Jadon Sancho are the ones expected to compete for the left position. With Maresca offloading Sterling, and Mudryk looking like he’s out of favor, the fight is between Neto and Sancho. Madueke scored a Hat trick against crystal palace in game week 2 and looks in great form, but with the competition being so fierce at Chelsea a slight dip in form and we could easily see Neto or Nkunku come in for him. This gives Jadon Sancho a freeway into the team. Maresca clearly said that he wants different wingers. He could be talking about how he likes to have wide wingers, players hugging the touchline. Jadon Sancho is one of those players, his best attributes are attacking 1v1s and then finding the man in space. Maresca likes players who can do that, he likes to stretch the opposition defense. Having wide wingers who can take on fullbacks creates space for the players making attacking runs into the box. Combined with his ability to find the perfect pass in the final third Sancho looks like a solid option.
The fight for starts at Chelsea.
Chelsea FC is oozing with attackers, and with Palmer occupying the attacking midfield position to provide creativity, it looks like the battle between Jackson, Madueke, Neto, Nkunku, Felix, Guiu and Sancho for three positions is going to be fierce. Madueke is in great form and his minutes look secure for now. Although Felix can play the striker, Jackson has been Chelsea’s go to man up top. His confidence looks better than last year, and he is scoring goals. The only position that is up for the taking at Chelsea’s front three is on the left. Neto along with Jadon Sancho are the ones who are expected to compete for the left position. Unlike Mudryk and Sterling, players who look to get inside with the ball as much as they can, Jadon Sancho, Pedro Neto and Nordi Madueke are the type of players who like playing around the touchline, get past the defender and split the defense up and are thus preferred under Maresca. Chelsea have many talented options and it wouldn’t be a shock seeing Sancho play on the right in the future, but looking at his position in training, it looks like Maresca likes him on the left. He could get some minutes against Bournemouth, most likely off the bench. Considering the fact that because of the international break, he got an extra week to train, there is a possibility that we see him start on the left at the Vitality stadium. The childhood Chelsea fan, could make his Chelsea debut this weekend
