Lautaro Martinez closing in on a contract extension with Inter

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Inter Milan are reportedly closing in on a new contract extension for Argentine forward Lautaro Martinez as per the report from Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The 24-years-old joined the Serie A giants back in 2018 from the Argentine side Racing Club for around €23 million. The forward has managed to establish himself as an integral part of the Nerazzurri system, scoring 50 goals in 133 appearances in all competitions over the past few campaigns. He also assisted the club to win the league title last term under Antonio Conte.

According to the journalist, Inter have offered a five-year contract extension until 2026 to Martinez. Romano further claims that the agreement will be reached soon and the Argentine will commit his future for Simone Inzaghi’s side

The Nerazzurri are also working on extending the contract of Nicole Barella and Marcelo Brozovic. The reigning Italian champions will start negotiations from next week as the Croatia international has only one year remaining in his current contract. And he will be free to start talks with foreign clubs about pre-contract from January.

Martinez set to prolong his future with Inter:

Extending Lautaro Martinez’ contract will be a very good deal for Inter Milan. The forward’s future was a subject of concern for the Nerazzurri fans as the Argentine was linked with a move away from the San Siro stadium throughout the summer. However, the transfer never materialised and in the end, he remained at the blue half of Milan.

Inter were in financial difficulties at the end of the last season. But, following the departure of Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku, the Nerazzurri have now overcome the situation by retaining around €175 million from the sales.

Inzaghi’s side have replaced the aforementioned players quite well by signing Denzel Dumfries, Joaquín Correa and Edin Dzeko. All of them are quite cheap and effective. Those two forwards have already made the mark for the Italian champions by scoring in their respective debuts.
