Leon Goretzka has refuted all claims of a strained relationship with the Manager

Bayern Munich started the season very brightly as the club scored goals for fun against the opposition. However, the bright start has been overshadowed by a string of average performances which has seen the club slip down to 5th place in the Bundesliga. Leon Goretzka has recently returned from injury and has struggled to adapt to the pace of the game and it’s a cause of concern for the club.

The German international was a very important part of the squad last season. The midfielder was crucial to the way Julian Nagelsmann set up his team and contributed a lot through goals and assists. The box-to-box midfielder afforded Joshua Kimmich a lot of space and freedom to dictate the game from deep.

However, the injury to Goretzka forced Nagelsmann to think differently. Marcel Sabitzer has done a good job in the midfield in his absence, however, the Austrian is different from the German international. Leon Goretzka occupies the space in the box as a second striker which allows the other players space outside the box. Whereas Sabitzer is more likely to occupy the space just outside the box than in the penalty area.

Rumors have been rife about the relationship between Leon Goretzka and Nagelsmann

After the victory against Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League recently, Leon Goretzka cleared the air about his relationship with the Manager. The German international came on at half-time and helped the team win 2-0 against Barcelona.

The midfielder has also explained that the rumors have been sparked off due to a misinterpretation of his statement. He said that:

“I resolved not to say anything about it. A sentence of mine was used out of place. I have no problem with the coach or the fact that I’m not starting today. I was out for six weeks, then started, then it was clear that I wouldn’t play from the start. [Marcel Sabitzer] did a great job. These alleged problems in the dressing room are so contrived that it really annoys me. We get along great in the team.”

The German international unequivocally rebuffed claims of discontent in the dressing room and backed the team to do well this season. It is important for Bayern Munich that Leon Goretzka returns to full fitness and regains his position in the squad to perform at the level he did last season!!
