Just weeks before drawing level with former Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez, Lionel Messi has once again etched his name in the record-breaking books of football.

After the 6-1 victory over Real Sociedad, Messi topped his achievements with the Catalan giants. The Argentine genius hit a masterstroke of 768 appearances in the striped shirt. He also notched up two goals and provided an assist, and similarly reigned the La Liga goal scorers chart.

Along with this triumph, the Barcelona captain has moved a top of all of Barcelona’s historic appearance makers.

Following his debut in 2005, Messi to date holds a crazy track record. He has scored 663 goals in 768 games, provided 290 assists, netted 48 hat tricks, and scooped 34 trophies with Barcelona.

He also hailed himself for having played 511 matches in La Liga. The others come from playing 149 in the Champions League, and 79 in the Copa del Rey. Furthermore, 20 in the Spanish Super Cup, 5 in the Club World Cup, and 4 in the European Super Cup.
