Lionel Messi is set to return against Ajaccio amid transfer rumours

Fourth

Following two underwhelming seasons in France, Messi appears ready to play in Saudi Arabia next season as part of a mega-deal that would see him follow arch-rival Cristiano Ronaldo to the Gulf country. Lionel Messi is expected to return to Paris Saint-Germain for Saturday’s Ligue 1 match against Ajaccio after serving a club-imposed suspension for an unapproved trip to Saudi Arabia. The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner missed last weekend’s victory in Troyes due to responsibilities in his position as a Saudi tourist ambassador. The Argentine later apologised to the club and his teammates. However he returned to PSG training on Monday. But his time at the Parc des Princes is coming to an end.

Lionel Messi might play in Saudi Arabia next season

Following two underwhelming seasons in France, Messi appears ready to play in Saudi Arabia next season. Al-Hilal might offer a mega-deal that would see him follow arch-rival Cristiano Ronaldo to the Gulf country. Messi turns 36 next month. La pulga will sign a “huge” contract with an unnamed club, according to a source close to the negotiations this week.

“Messi is a done deal. He’ll play in Saudi Arabia next season,” stated the source, who spoke on the condition of confidentiality.

“The deal is incredible. It’s massive. We’re just finalising some minor details,” added the person, who was not authorised to speak to the media.

PSG has yet to announce the departure of Messi. Messi’s father Jorge has stated that the World Cup winner has yet to determine where he will play next season. However, it appears that his time at PSG will come to an end in June, when the club expects to celebrate a record 11th French league title.
“If the club were interested in renewing his contract, it would have been done earlier,” a PSG source claimed.

Ajaccio on the verge of relegation

If Lens defeats Reims on Friday, the gap at the top-2 might be reduced to three points. But PSG still has four games left against teams in the bottom half, so the championship is still theirs to lose. Ajaccio is destined to return to Ligue 2 right away after winning just once in 13 games. In Ligue 1 three of the four relegation spots are already locked up. Auxerre, currently in 16th place, will face Brest, the team that is currently above of them in the standings. Auxerre will try to avoid the same fate as Ajaccio. Strasbourg will attempt to maintain their late-season resurgence against Nice. While third-placed Marseille will have the best opportunity to recover from their loss at Lens due to the arrival of relegated Angers.
