According to a report by AS, La Liga and Barcelona have come to an agreement regarding the situation of Lionel Messi’s new contract. The Barcelona club legend is a free agent since the 1st of July, as his earlier contract ended with the Spanish giants. Following the free agent news, reports emerged that Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are willing to sign Messi. But Joan Laporta had been positive regarding Messi signing a new contract with Barcelona.
The Catalans are in a debt of €1.2 billion with having the highest wage bill in world football. Following which they are in a workload of selling the high bill players and the unproductive players this summer. As of now, the club has been successful in loading off six players from their squad. But that loading off will not be sufficient to balance their financial books.
Following their debt situation, Barcelona have still not been able to register the new signings they have made. The Catalans have made four signings this summer, which include Eric Garcia, Sergio Aguero, Memphis Depay, and Emerson Royal. But as La Liga imposed a salary cap for Barcelona, the club couldn’t register the players as the figure exceeds despite the players taking a pay -cut.
However, the main headache for the Barcelona board is to offer Lionel Messi a new contract as soon as possible. Messi is out of contract since the 1st of July and the Catalans are trying hard to table a new contract in between their drama with La Liga. However, as per the latest reports, it seems Barcelona and La Liga have come to the same page. The La Liga president Javier Tebas has given some relief to the Barca board in order to offer Messi a new contract.
Messi will continue at Barcelona for the next two seasons
Lionel Messi, the Barcelona club legend, is currently not a Catalan player as his contract expired with La Liga Giants. The 34-year-old has not spoken about his contract situation as he focused on winning Copa America. But the club had been in regular contact with his agent regarding signing the new contract.
Barcelona had still not been able to table the new contract because of the salary cap imposed by La Liga. But some good news came for the Catalans fans as La Liga’s president agreed on giving some relaxation regarding the salary cap. While Javier Tebas strictly instructed Barcelona to get their financial book balanced before the start of the season.
Following the relaxation, Barcelona can now table a new contract for Lionel Messi. And as per reports, the club has offered a two-year contract to their club legend, Messi. While Messi is ready to sign the contract as soon as possible and continue his beautiful journey at Barcelona.
