Liverpool Are Now Focusing on Ollie Watkins

Liverpool turn attention to £60m Arsenal target Ollie Watkins. That is because of growing fear of being priced out of first choice, Alexander Isak.

Ollie Watkins has got new admirers in Liverpool

Liverpool are moving on in the transfer market. The Reds have doubts that they may miss out on a move for Alexander Isak. He has scored 21 goals in 29 Premier League appearances this campaign.

Newcastle reportedly want up to £150 million for the Swede, especially if they make the Champions League. With that in mind, the Merseyside club are back on the prowl for viable options.

One name is Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins. The England international is now being tracked by Arsenal as well.

The Gunners have had a £40m bid rejected in January. In addition, Villa value him around £60m. And is a figure the Reds can handle. As they prepare for a summer rebuild under new boss Arne Slot.

Watkins on Liverpool Radar as Isak Price Skyrockets

Ollie’s situation at Villa Park has taken a surprising twist in recent weeks. Despite a strong season, he has been benched for most of April.

He has played only limited minutes in Villa’s crucial Champions League tie against PSG. Marcus Rashford has started ahead of him. He is on loan from Manchester United. And he has impressed. However, he has put his fellow Englishman’s future in doubt.

Villa can decide to activate their £40m option to make Rashford’s move permanent. Then, Ollie could be on his way out. The Reds see an opportunity here. Especially, if they are unable to strike the Isak deal due to Newcastle’s sky-high asking price.

So while he is contracted until 2028, it is expensive dealing with the England forward. But, he is a proven Premier League striker. And he is a great option if needed.

As a result, Slot’s side will have to hurry with Arsenal still behind him. It already looks like Watkins could be the headline name in the transfer market.
