According to several reports, Liverpool are considering opening talks with Naby Keita, as the reds look to extended his stay at Anfield. Keita’s current contract with Liverpool is ending on, June 30, 2023, but the club wants more of him in the future. As a result, the reds will be opening new contract talks with the 26-year-old in the coming days.

Naby Keita made his way into the football from his country club Horoya AC, later RB Salzburg signed the midfield talent in 2014. Staying with the Austrian side for two years, Keita appeared 81 times, scoring 20 goals and 11 assists. In 2016 he was signed by Bundesliga side RB Leipzig, from where he made into the top midfield list.

In two years’ stay with Leipzig, Keita appeared 71 times, scoring 17 goals and 15 assists in all competitions. In 2018, the Premier League side, Liverpool approached Leipzig in order to secure the services of Keita. And with the reds making an offer of €48 million, Leipzig decided to let go the midfielder.

Since Keita signed for Liverpool, he has failed to show the top form that he had for his previous club. While he failed to be a regular starter for the reds as Georginio Wijnaldum held the spot. To date, Keita has appeared 80 times for Liverpool, scoring 7 goals and 4 assists in all competitions.

However, despite Keita’s descending form, Liverpool are considering him as part of the future, as they consider extending his contract. Currently, his contract with the reds ends after two seasons in 2023, but the club may sign for two or three more years. The main reason for Liverpool extending Keita’s contract might be Wijnaldum leaving the reds this summer.
