Tottenham star defender and Argentine star receives praise from Messi and Liverpool icon.

It’s not often you receive praise from other legends, especially someone like Messi who is careful of his words. Nevertheless, Tottenham’s star defender and Argentine fellow teammate Cristian Romero earned his praise from the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner.

Ever since he arrived in Tottenham, Cristian Romero has been impressing everyone with his performances. The £42million center back has showcased stark defending not only at the club level but also with Argentina at the international level. His efforts were a major contributing factor in Argentina’s victory in Copa America 2021 and the World Cup that followed.

Last year, Argentina’s Lionel Messi was quick to praise the Tottenham star after his performance in a World Cup qualifier against Ecuador: “For me, he is the best defender in the world right now. Amazing performance tonight, man of the match.”

Now too, in the ongoing Copa America, the Argentine is showing excellent performances. This time former Liverpool and Barcelona player Javier Mascherano has a few lines of praise for the center-back:

“Cuti Romero is among the best centre-backs in the world, if he’s not the best already. We don’t know what his ceiling is.

“He has demonstrated it throughout the entire season at Tottenham. He has been a cornerstone player for the team, incredibly important, and the Tottenham coach has repeatedly praised him in big matches.

“I believe he is at an incredible level, a player with impressive abilities who continues to grow and improve. The level he is reaching is impressive.”

Romero was named the best defender in Serie A back in the 2020/21 season. Then, he joined the Spurs side and has been an inseparable part of the main lineup ever since under the leadership of Ange Postecoglou’s management missing only five league matches last season. Romero showcases excellent defending, aggressive tackling, robustness, and smooth passing.

Holding a record of 18 Premier League clean sheets with Spurs, the Argentine will be eager to secure his second Copa America win in a row. Moreover, he will be excited to join his Club again as he arrive in England for the upcoming season.
