Liverpool in the Market for Real Madrid Defender Eder Militao

Eder Militao to Liverpool

Liverpool have reportedly set their sights on Real Madrid defender Eder Militao over a move in the January transfer window.

The 22-year-old joined Los Blancos in 2019 but has yet to establish himself in Zidane’s team. The Brazilian has made just one start apiece in La Liga and the Champions League in 2020/21.

The Brazilian signed from Porto in a big-money deal last summer but has failed to spark into life.

Liverpool top the English Premier League this season despite losing Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez early on, Militao will be a great addition at Anfield to stay at the top.

Militao to solve Liverpool’ defensive woes?

Liverpool have been linked to every possible defender the past few months and the new name to be added to the list is Real Madrid player Eder Militao.

Virgil van Dijk has been a big loss and could miss the entire season. Meanwhile, Joe Gomez is also out, and Joel Matip and Fabinho have had their fitness issues in recent times.

The Reds are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements, a loan move might be more appropriate than splashing out on the first capable center-back who happens to come along.

Militao may not be in the best form right now, but he could be an upgrade on inexperienced and unproven players like Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams.

The centre-back was part of a talented Sao Paulo generation and he was coached there by former Liverpool coach Michael Beale.

Michael Beale told Goal,

“He was a good player and Liverpool already knew about Eder and asked me to keep an eye on him, We went to the academy and picked eight players to start pre-season with us. Eder was one.”

The 22-year-old excelled at Porto — both domestically and in Europe — to the extent that he was rated among the best young defenders on the continent.

It’s rare a move would suit all parties so well, but there’s the potential that everyone could win from a hypothetical Militao switch to Liverpool.

Finding a defender with sufficient quality in January would very well demand a king’s ransom from Liverpool.

Therefore, to sign Militao on loan makes sense from a playing and financial viewpoint and the move could allow the Reds to achieve their on field goals this season.
