Liverpool have joined Chelsea in the race for Nigerian fullback. The player is highly versatile and already impressing in Premier League. He also has interest from Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur.
Chelsea are willing to sign a fullback this summer. They are said to sign both left back and right back. Firstly, Chilwell and Veiga are set to leave permanently this summer. This will leave Cucurella with no backup. On the other hand, Malo Gusto has failed to impress whereas Reece James has been haunted by injuries.
As for Liverpool, they are in desperate need of fullbacks. On the left side, they can opt to move-on from Andrew Robertson. On the other hand, Trent Alexander-Arnold is said to leave as free agent this summer. He is heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid.
Liverpool join the race for Chelsea target
The star in question here is Ola Aina of Nottingham Forest. According to Caught Offside, Liverpool are willing to sign Aina as a replacement for Alexander-Arnold. But, they will face heavy competition from Chelsea, Newcastle and Tottenham.
Aina has played an important role for Forest this season. He has played 32 games and has registered 2 goals along with 1 assist. He has so far played 39 games for Nigerian national team and has registered 2 assists.
Aina mainly plays as right-back. But, he can also play as left-back, left-wing-back and right midfielder. This makes him a key asset for any team he plays in. Forest are very happy with him but may feel powerless to keep hold of him if a top club arrives with suitable offer.
Chelsea may have a lead in the race to sign Aina over Liverpool. This is because the 28 year old has came up through their academy. He played 6 games for their senior team but was sold later due to falling down the pecking order.
