Liverpool have joined the race for exit-linked Chelsea star. The player was keen to leave Stamford Bridge in January itself. The Blues are now ready to let him leave on lowered transfer fee.
The star in question here is Christopher Nkunku who joined Chelsea in 2023. His career at West London did not start on a good note. The 27 year old suffered serious injury due to which he missed many games. He played only 14 games in his first season at West London.
Nkunku’s absence gave other players chance to shine for Chelsea. Cole Palmer took the opportunity with both hands and became most important player for the West London club. He is now the first choice number ten for the Blues and it will not change anytime soon.
Nkunku returned to full fitness this season. But, he has failed to get over other stars in the pecking order. As a result, he has struggled for minutes. In addition, he has to play in unnatural positions in order to receive game-time.
Nkunku wanted to leave Chelsea in the January window. He was wanted by multiple clubs across whole Europe. The Blues were demanding £60 million which resulted in failure of deal. But, they have now lowered their demands and are ready to let Nkunku leave.
Liverpool join the race for Christopher Nkunku
According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool have joined the race for Nkunku. They have started negotiations to sign him in the summer window. The Reds are set to sell Luis Diaz who will enter the final year of his contract. Nkunku can be a good replacement for the Columbian.
The report adds that Chelsea want to recoup most of the £52 million that they spent on Nkunku. Earlier, it was reported that they will demand £40 million. Nkunku is keen to leave before club world cup so that he can start for his new club.
