Liverpool keeping tabs on Hakan Calhanoglu

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Hakan Calhanoglu might be at Liverpool next season. Liverpool are looking to sign the Turkish midfielder whose contract ends by the end of this month. AC Milan are unlikely to extend his contract and the Premier League seems to be his destination.

Calhanoglu had a wonderful 2020-21 season as AC Milan finished 2nd in the Serie A. Donning the No.10 jersey proudly, the playmaker was a threat to any defence. His movement off the ball and his vision and passing with the ball was one of the major factors to AC Milan’s wonderful season.

Manchester United and Juventus have been linked with the midfielder known for his stinging shot from outside the box. Merseyside have joined the pursuit which could possibly suggest in Jurgen Klopp’s tactics. Georginio Wijaldum is on his way to Barcelona and the lookout for an attacking midfielder is a very interesting topic.

Strong season at Milan

The Turk managed to score 9 goals and grab 12 assists across all competitions this season. It was the continuation of good form from the previous season. He was on our top-10 attacking midfielders of 2020.

Along with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Theo Hernandez, the Turk almost got the Rossoneris the Scudetto. However, Thursday nights football and league titles very rarely go together. The packed schedule gave rise to injuries and this dampened their title hopes. But they gave us a season that we will never forget.

Calhanoglu at Liverpool ?

Liverpool usually play with centre-midfielders and leave the attack to their wing-back and forwards. Signing Calhanoglu could give Klopp a new dimension to his attack. It was against the same manager that he scored one of the greatest free-kicks.

The player has not made up his mind about his future yet but is most likely to go on a free transfer. Manchester and Turin have bigger transfer priorities this summer. Liverpool can use this window to sneak in a very good deal. They had a horrible season and will look to start more stronger this season.
