Liverpool legend slams Chelsea star despite his good performance

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has slammed Chelsea captain Reece James due to his on field performance against Newcastle United yesterday.

Earlier, Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca said that Reece James lacks leadership skills. He said that he expects more from the skipper and now Carragher has highlighted the same issue.

“I spoke with him and I expect from him more in terms of leadership inside the changing room. He’s on the way, he’s doing well, he’s progressing but I expect more” – Maresca about Reece James.

Later, the Chelsea boss said that James is captain and he should give more than the rest. He added that he expects it from James and so does everyone else in the team.

James started th game yesterday against Newcastle United as a left back. He had a decent performance but there was one moment when he showed what Maresca meant to say. Jamie Carragher observed it carefully and analysed it very wisely.

Jamie Carragher unimpressed with Reece James

Reece James was directly involved in the error leading to Newcastle’s first goal. It was only one of the rare errors but the captain’s mentality was enough for Carragher to question his leadership skills.

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher was unimpressed with Chelsea captain and urged him to do more on the pitch. He was then backed by his colleague Theo Walcott who had similar views.

“Just look at him here with Isak. I mean, Ok, you lose him – either run back or scream at someone that they’ve got to pick him up. He just lets him go, and I go back to what the manager said before the game; he wants more from him as a leader” – Carragher speaking about James.

Lastly, the Liverpool legend said that James’ job was to run back or when he loses his opponent ask his mates to cover for him. He was then backed by Walcott who said that players now stick to their positions. He added that Carragher is right as a left-back now stays at his position and just passes on the responsibilty.

Other than this, James had a very good game considering the fact that he played as a left back. He now needs to work more on his leadership skills to guide his team properly towards the victory.
