Liverpool Linked With Napoli Star Kalidou Koulibaly

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Liverpool are showing interest in Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly. It’s no secret that the Reds have had their fair proportion of injury problems this season. They’re hit hard from a defensive viewpoint with all key senior central defenders injured out for the season.

With Virgil van Dijk hopefully coming back in the next few months. Liverpool finally wishes to offer him the center-back partner he’s been longing for.

Kalidou Koulibaly has been linked to an away move from Serie A giants for a few years now. It finally seems to be close to becoming a reality as the Italian side admitted on Friday that they would have to lower their expected Senegal international fees.

According to local newspaper Il Mattino, Napoli are desperate to make huge cuts to their wage budget to balance the books. Koulibaly is one of the club’s top earners, and Stadio San Paolo’s chiefs are said to bid as low as £37 million, which Bayern Munich has already put forward, according to the report.

Klopp frank about the effect of the pandemic on their spending this summer

While Klopp added of their scenario if they cannot qualify for the Champions League:

“You want to excite players to join you. At the beginning (when he arrived at Liverpool) it wasn’t like this.

“I’m sitting here and players (I was talking to) have offers from clubs who were playing in the Champions League and it was like, ‘ok, sorry we can only offer nothing or the Europa League.’

“So it’s a great competition to play in, for many reasons, but for the club it is always financial.”

Liverpool have lost all three centre-backs Van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and Joel Matip to season-ending injuries. Since then midfielder Fabinho and Jordan Henderson were heavily involved in defence. But both midfielders have got injured now, the skipper being out for 4 weeks now. Reds managed to sign Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies at the end of the January transfer window.

However, a cut-price could allow both clubs to seek a deal and finally bring Koulibaly to the Premier League.
