Liverpool star midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has reportedly agreed to join Inter Milan amid Barcelona interest this summer. According to Italian journalist Sandro Sabatini, Gini Wijnaldum has shaken his hands and reached an understanding with the Italian club.
In the autumn, the future of the Dutch playmaker looked to be certain at Barcelona with Ronald Koeman. The same Koeman who left the Dutch National Team job to join Barcelona.
In the meantime, PSG and AC Milan were also interested in the Midfielder. However, with Barcelona’s financial chaos and Koeman’s future being uncertain now, it looks like Inter Milan will win the race for Wijnaldum. The Nerazzurri might end up being the most likely destination for the Liverpool no. 5.
LIVERPOOL LOOKING TO REFRESH THEIR SQUAD WITH WIJNALDUM LEAVING FOR INTER
Jürgen Klopp brought Wijnaldum from Newcastle United for £23million in the Summer of 2016. Since his arrival, he has made 222 appearances for the club and scored 22 goals. This includes the 2 he scored in the infamous 4-0 comeback against Barcelona in the 2019 Champions League Semi-Finals.
Letting Gini Wijnaldum leave might be the first step Klopp might take to refresh his squad this summer. Klopp is currently being criticized by fans and many football pundits for losing 4 matches in a row in the Premier League and thus putting the hopes of retaining the title to bed.
Liverpool are currently sitting 7th in the Premier League table with 43 points in 27 games. After losing to Chelsea at Anfield in Gameweek 27, Liverpool drop down to 7th with Chelsea climbing up to 4th.
The pressure is piling up on Jurgen Klopp and he now needs to do a rehaul of the whole squad to stay competing with the rest of the League.
