Liverpool Need Henderson and Fabinho Back in Midfield?

Henderson and Fabinho playing in the Mid-field

Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp are recently being criticized for their current playing styles as they have started losing confidence in the midfield. They are struggling to win the balls in the midfield to feed the front three for scoring goals.

Since Liverpool captain, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho have started playing as the centre-back, Liverpool have looked sleepy in the midfield and the energy that Henderson and Fabinho put to win back the balls in the oppositions half is no were to be seen in their current playing style.

Both Henderson and Fabinho are forced to play in defence due to the injury crises that Liverpool are facing currently.

According to the stats, Since a defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on October 22, 2017, Liverpool have lost only two Premier League games when Jordan Henderson has started in the central midfield. Both were against their arch-rivals Manchester City, one being a couple of days after winning the title. (Chris Bascombe – Telegraph)

When can we expect Henderson and Fabinho back in the Midfield?

Both midfielders have now become the regular centre-backs. The likely possibility of Henderson and Fabinho being back and playing in their natural position i.e. midfield again is when their center-backs Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez get back on the team sheet.

Georginio Wijnaldum, Thiago Alcantara, James Milner, and Curtis Jones have been featured heavily in midfield lately. Naby Keita and Oxlade-Chamberlian are also available for Klopp but struggling for fitness. Creative chances have been dried up since both Henderson and Fabinho forced back to defence.

It is expected that they might be back for the final month or two of the season and play a big part in securing their place for the top 4 and give a tough fight to their opponents in the UEFA Champions League if they progress somehow for the quarters or semis.

Liverpool are currently down to 6th in the Premier League table after Chelsea and West ham won in their respective games on Monday. Next up for the champions is a Merseyside derby as they will be facing Everton at home on Saturday
