Liverpool Player Ratings in 1-1 draw against Brighton: VAR Drama once again

Liverpool were held to a controversial 1-1 draw at Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday afternoon at the Amex Stadium in the Premier League clash.

The Reds had their moments and felt hard done by when VAR ruled out strikes by Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane for marginal offsides.

Skipper Jordan Henderson improved Liverpool after the break but a late VAR penalty saw Brighton claim a point.

Liverpool vs Brighton Player Rating:

Alisson Becker (out of 10) – 7

Rapid off his line on several occasions in his sweeper role to deal with long balls over the top. Not forced to make any real tough saves.

Neco Williams – 5

The young Welshman was well off the quality required and struggled defensively. The silly challenge to give away a penalty. Subbed at half time.

Nathaniel Phillips – 6

Played well at centre back. Very strong in the air and solid in the tackle.

Fabinho – 8

Covered a lot of ground as the left-sided Liverpool centre-back and had a good battle with Danny Welbeck and did a decent job for his team.

Andy Robertson – 7

Didn’t have an easy time of it first half up against the marauding Veltman. Later gained the upper hand and key part in Jota’s strike, but unlucky to concede an equalizing penalty.

Gini Wijnaldum – 7

Unspectacular but got through a mountain of work for his team. Better when he played alongside Henderson after the break.

James Milner – 6

Looked a little tired in midfield but moved to right-back after the break-in place of Williams. Hobbled off with what looked like a hamstring injury. Big blow for Liverpool.

Takumi Minamino – 6

Playing in a midfield role, worked hard to get himself into the game but only started showing the necessary aggression in the second half.

Mohamed Salah – 7

Looked lively early on and fired one chance just wide. Had goal ruled out for offside in the first half, not at all happy to be subbed off.

Roberto Firmino – 5

His control and pass for Salah’s disallowed goal was fantastic, but that was one moment in a 90-minute display where he just wasn’t seen often enough

Diogo Jota – 8 (MOTM)

Lively throughout and a fine finish to claim his ninth goal of the season. Proving to be an excellent signing for Liverpool.

Jordan Henderson (for Williams ) – 8

Changed the game in Liverpool’s favour after the break and looked to have led his side to victory until the last-minute VAR intervention.

Sadio Mane (for Salah) 6

Went down the centre attacking position on his arrival and had his goal declared offside.

Curtis Jones (for Milner 74) – 6

Liverpool’s third right-back of the match and the least likely, which was obvious from some of his positionings.
