Liverpool have increased their work to confirm Ibrahima Konate’s stay with a big contract offer. It is known that the defender will be the last of the months of his deal, and top clubs of Europe are watching very closely how he moves.
Reds Table a Generous New Contract
The Anfield side have a rich contract offer for Konate on the table. From January the centre-back can sign with any club abroad without the need for prior approval, thus the pressure on the Reds is mounting. While the talks are going on, his side is not saying anything. The three clubs which include Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and PSG are competing for him but apparently, Madrid is the one who is most likely to get him.
Konate will be telling Liverpool what he thinks of the offer in a couple of weeks. It is expected that the salary increase included in their proposal to Konate will make him decide to continue at Anfield.
Defensive Concerns Add Urgency
Liverpool are going to be a deathly defensive nightmare. Their central defense of Van Dijk and Konate has been the regular one so far in the league. His performance has declined, but still, he is very significant. There’s a void left due to the injury of Giovanni Leoni, and Arne Slot cannot change his defensive line.
It would be a significant blow that would hamper Liverpool’s top-four challenge if Konate were to leave in the middle of the season. The club could be making a move for a new defender come January with such players as Marc Guehi, Dayot Upamecano, and Nico Schlotterbeck being their possible choices.
Author’s Opinion
Liverpool must keep Konate no matter what. Although his performance level may not be consistent, he is the one who provides stability to the defense line when the club faces heavy workload during the season.
