Liverpool Set to Keep Faith in Wataru Endo

Liverpool have future plans for Wataru Endo, with the club reportedly not considering his sale this summer.

Liverpool Sees Endo as a Key Squad Player for Next Season

Despite limited minutes this season, Wataru Endo is likely to be staying put at Anfield. Reports suggest new manager Arne Slot is preparing for next season with the Japanese international in his plans. The manager views him as a reliable and experienced choice in midfield.

The midfielder has not yet made a league start in the Premier League. Although, he has made a strong impression when called upon from the bench. He is often used late in matches to lock things down or take control in domestic cup games.

Endo has been linked with a move away, including interest from Eintracht Frankfurt. But, according to The Athletic, he wants to stay with the Premier League champions. With the 2026 World Cup approaching, consistent game time is important.

However, the Japan’s captain is still expected to feature heavily for his national team. Meanwhile, the Reds once saw Martin Zubimendi as a top midfield target. He was an alternative option, in case Slot looks to reinforce the squad.

Zubimendi Interest Fades as Endo Stays in Midfield Mix

The Reds’ tried to sign Martin Zubimendi. But, the discussions fell off when Martin decided to stay at Real Sociedad. Now, Arsenal looks like his next likely club. While the Spaniard was seen as a key target, Liverpool’s focus seems to have shifted.

The Merseyside club have relied heavily on Ryan Gravenberch as the starting No. 6. Although, a deeper midfield option like Endo could have allowed for more rotation.

Interestingly, Angelo Stiller was also on Liverpool’s radar. He was Endo’s replacement at Stuttgart. The 24-year-old German has great stats in passing and creativity.

However, a move isn’t confirmed, he remains a name to watch. For now, with no urgent need to bring in another holding midfielder. So, Endo looks set to remain part of Slot’s plans heading into a key summer window.
