Liverpool to have a club clear out this summer

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Liverpool are in the midst of a transitional period. With Jurgen Klopp leaving and a lot of players aging, certainly there will be changes. Liverpool FC have been one of the big names in the English Football scenario since its formation. It will be a big task to keep it there at the top specially right after having a golden era.

Liverpool are looking to sell and offload a lot of players this coming summer transfer window. Although their team has a lot of quality, they will look to make a newer squad with fresh faces. All of this is thanks to Arne Slot, the new manager who will be taking over the Merseyside Club this summer.

However, a lot of players will want to stay at the club. Liverpool are one of the only few clubs that have been competitive during this decade for the Premier League title. They even pipped Manchester City, the usual winners, to a Premier League title during the Klopp era. Arne Slot will be looking to make his own squad. But he will want to keep the core winning mentality of Jurgen Klopp instilled in the club.

In the midst of all of this commotion, Liverpool have announced that ten players will depart this summer when their contracts expire. Spanish Goalkeeper Adrian is also set to leave the club with his contract expiring. However, he is the only one who has received a contract extension from the Liverpool board. Probably on the advice of Arne Slot.

Adrian has been a long-serving man at the Merseyside Club. He even got a lot of game time whenever Allison was injured. However, we can understand why the contract has been offered to Adrian recently. This is mainly due to the uncertain times at Liverpool right now.

A new Liverpool FC

Liverpool have lost Jurgen Klopp as their manager. After 8 years at the club, Klopp has left Liverpool and is willing to take a break from football. However, this has left Liverpool in a position to rebuild. Arne Slot and the Liverpool board have decided not to keep 10 players whose contracts are expiring this season.

Adrian got the contract extension because they are uncertain about the future of their first-choice goalkeeper, Allison. However, Fabrizio recently said,

“Let me clarify on Alisson, who has a long-term contract with Liverpool, but we have many rumours about Saudi Arabia. It is true that there was interest from Saudi Arabia. At the end of February and beginning of March, they approached Alisson about a potential move,” the CaughtOffside columnist spoke on The Debrief.

But what I’m hearing is that Alisson is really happy at Liverpool, and they’re really happy with him. So I see him staying and playing an important part in Liverpool’s new project.”

Other outgoing players

The other players leaving are Thiago Alcantara and Joel Matip. Thiago was amazing at Bayern Munich but never really got going at Liverpool due to his injury issues. The Spaniard is expected to leave the club now, at the end of his contract.

Joel Matip was announced to be leaving in May, and this is how Jurgen Klopp reacted.

“A wonderful professional, a wonderful footballer, and a wonderful human being—we have been blessed to have him with us for as long as we have, and now all we can do is wish him well as he heads off in a new direction.

“Joel’s qualities as a player are there for all to see, and as a club, we have benefited from them since the first moment that he joined. I don’t think he has had too many headlines over the years, but he has only ever been a very famous figure within our group.

“I have said before that if there was one person who wouldn’t care if he was underrated, it would be Joel, but the truth is we could not have rated him more highly. Not only has he set the standards for himself, he has set them for others, and this is one of the main reasons why his time here has been so successful.”

Other players leaving are Adam Lewis, Melkamu Frauendorf, and Mateusz Musialowski.  Cody Pennington, Nathan Giblin, Francis Gyimah, Luke Hewitson, and Niall Osborne will all leave the club.
