Liverpool under FSG: the relation between fans and the owners

There have been ups and downs and different flows in tenure of FSG at Liverpool. On the pitch Liverpool has seen better football in terms of quality and results. A big credit also goes to the previous Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and his team.

He transformed the shape of footballing style and atmosphere of the club on immediate effects back in 2015. Although his work is called “incredible” because of the backing and the budget he was provided by the board, which was not really enough for a manager to manage with and yet he showed his quality and results on the pitch. These actions had turned fans against FSG.

Journey of FSG group at Liverpool so far

Fenway Sports Group took over the club in 2010. Since then fans had different and contradictory opinion about the owners because of the actions they have taken. Although they have been making upgrades in off the pitch facilities like extended stands, better training grounds, better facilities for the player and the matchday going fans as well.

Despite of all these they have been taking criticism because if their lack of financial backing to the gaffer in terms of recruitment of players and making the overall squad better. Although their work apart from football has been really good.

Latest stadium renovations plan at Anfield

The last upgrade Fenway Sports Group made was to expand The Sir Kenny Daglish Stand in 2022 and extend the sitting capacity to 61,000 seats as the chief executive of Liverpool said, “We’ll see what ancillary development might be possible,” in a press conference in 2022.

Apart from the new sitting area there has also been improvement in The kop bar, lounge, and the underground tunnel. The project of new hospitality providing 1,800 seats with lounge facilities is top tier in terms of quality which keeps them among the best of stadiums in England and the whole Europe.

Apart from the stadium FSG have also done very good done by securing good relations with Nike, Standard Chartered and AXA which has helped them have good revenue from Sponsors. FSG has also employed a disciplined, data-driven approach to player recruitment and sales. High-profile sales, such as Philippe Coutinho’s transfer to Barcelona, have funded key signings like Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker, which have been pivotal in Liverpool’s recent successes​.

FSG has also focused on strengthening the club’s organizational structure. Recently, Michael Edwards, former Sporting Director, returned to oversee football operations, ensuring the club’s long-term competitive edge.

Conclusion

Despite of having multiple opinions from fans for FSG there has not been any difference in enthusiasm of matchday going fans, the atmosphere at the stadium on matchdays still are electric and considered among the best stadiums to play at among the world.

Although in the ending matches of the season there was some anger in the fans as FSG had increased prices of match tickets and season tickets and because of that fans started boycotting going to stadium wo watch match also there was not any conclusion of the boycott. However the recent perfomance of FSG have been better and that creates calmness among the fans
