Liverpool vs Arsenal: The Gunners ends US tour with a close defeat

Arsenal’s final US tour match of Liverpool vs Arsenal came to an end with Liverpool winning 2-1 as we look in the post match analysis.

The US Tour for Arsenal ended in Philadelphia with title rivals Liverpool securing a 2-1 win over the Gunners. Arsenal did have a good start to the match. However, it fell short of victory due to the efforts of Mohamed Salah and Fabio Carvalho. The duo got Liverpool in a lead of 2-0 against Arsenal. Finally, Kai Havertz scored one to get the scoreline to 2-1.

Although the Gunners created a lot of chances in the second half, they suffered their first loss of the pre season.

Post Match Analysis: 2-1 defeat in Liverpool vs Arsenal showdown

To start the scoreline for Liverpool, Mohamed Salah scored the first goal in the 13th minute. This was topped up by Fabio Carvalho in 34th minute scoring the second goal for Arne Slot’s side.

The Gunners came with response in the 40th minute. Kai Havertz scored the first for Arsenal however, the side could not get an equalizer.

Arsenal’s captain Martin Ødegaard played for a full 90 minutes in Philadelphia. Although he wasn’t happy with the defeat, he is looking at the bigger picture out of their first defeat in pre season.

There are two more games for Arsenal in the pre season. The side will be facing Bayer Leverkusen and Lyon at Emirates Stadium. For Martin, facing another top side before they start their 2024/25 campaign is really an important. The Gunners will be facing Wolves on August 17.

Reflecting on the Liverpool vs Arsenal match, captain Martin said:

“We [Arsenal] always want to win when we play. It’s only pre season so it’s not the end of the world but it’s disappointing when you lose. I think in the second half we looked a lot better, and we improved a lot.

As the captain of the side, Martin has played an important role of keeping the squad together. For the past 11 days, he has worked towards creating a great team spirit combining the academy players with the first-teamers.

Additionaly, he also feels that the tour has also helped in doing just that. He was also excited to see so many Stateside Gooners that came to support the side.

Mikel Arteta also happy with the positives

Although the third and final game ended with a loss against Liverpool, Arsenal’s coach Mikel Arteta was still delighted by the outcomes. Arteta is gald that his squad has bonded during their time in the US on and off the pitch. This tour also helped the Gunners boost their fitness levels according to Arteta.

Additionally, the arrival of Riccardo Calafiori has also boosted the morale of the side.

During his post match interview, Arteta mentioned he was pleased to spend time with the academy players too. He further praised the players calling them “phenomenal”.

Although the tour might have ended with a defeat, according to him the scoreline was harsh on players. The scoreline could have been different espescially when the chance taken by Gabriel Jesus went marginally wide.

Regardless, going against their title rivals was something that pleased the boss. Also, the humid conditions and the hard battle also gave him some happiness. He expects much more to come as the pre season moves forward.

We will give full marks to Arsenal for its efforts. Although they lost the match but there were many psitives that they took out from the match. Let’s see how the rest of the pre season unfolds.
