Luis Diaz in Line for New Liverpool Deal Amid Transfer Rumours

The Reds are preparing to open contract talks with key winger Luis Diaz, aiming to reward his strong performances.

Luis Diaz Set for New Deal at Anfield

Liverpool are planning to hand Luis Diaz a new contract once the current season wraps up. The aim is to boost his wages to match the club’s top regular starters. The Columbia international, who signed for Liverpool in January 2022, is still on the original terms from his arrival. And he currently earns just £55,000 per week. That is far less than many of his teammates.

According to Sky Sports, the Reds will offer the Colombian forward a pay raise to reflect his importance in Arne Slot’s system. Also, mainly to fend off interest for him from other clubs. Although, his new salary will not be anywhere near what Mohamed Salah or Virgil van Dijk. But, it would still be higher.

The winger has been very good for the Reds this season. He is the best scorer of all the forwards, including Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez, and Diogo Jota. They all are currently earning more than double his salary. Federico Chiesa is also earning a bigger paycheck despite limited minutes. It’s clear Diaz’s current deal is due for an upgrade. The new contract not only rewards his performances but also aims to cool off growing transfer speculation.

Barcelona and Al-Nassr Circling

The left-winger is being linked with big names like Barcelona and Saudi side Al-Nassr. However, his future looks likely to remain at Anfield. Especially, with a new contract on the table. Barca’s interest seems to fade away given the form of Raphinha and Lamine Yamal.

Meanwhile, Al-Nassr could be willing to offer big money. But, the Merseyside club is confident that a pay rise will keep their star happy and focused.

In other transfer news, Slot’s side are said to be eyeing Juventus full-back Andrea Cambiaso. He is seen as a long-term replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold. However, Football Insider reports that Manchester City are currently leading the race. Cambiaso could be sold for £40 million if Juve fail to make the Champions League next season.
