Real Madrid directly told Liverpool that they will not make a move for Ibrahima Konate, thus ending the months-long speculation. There were a lot of rumours about the French defender leaving on a free next summer, which made Anfield feel quite unsettled given that his contract is up in two months’ time. His future is still unknown, and with each aborted conversation, the level of uncertainty increases.
Madrid Drop the Plan of a Free Agent Move
Liverpool will unwind Konate’s contract at the end of the season. Talks with Liverpool have been ongoing, but there is no agreement on the verge. This matter has caused the club to be on the verge of panic, especially when they think about how last summer Madrid got Trent Alexander-Arnold for free. Since Madrid could open a new chapter with Konate from January, the latter was the one who probably would have moved to Madrid.
Now, Madrid has confirmed to Liverpool that they will not pursue the 26-year-old. The choice to part ways with Madrid surprised a lot of people since in the last couple of years, Madrid have pulled off a bunch of big free transfers such as Kylian Mbappe, David Alaba, and Antonio Rudiger.
Liverpool Condition Regarding Defender’s Deal Is Not Good
Liverpool goal are in a very tough situation. Konate has been with the Reds at Anfield for five years and most probably he will be looking for a new challenge. The club is eager to have the matter resolved as they say that delaying it will be weakening their defensive side. They would stagger enormously if they dropped a key player and had no money for the next window. Right now, it is on Konate to figure out if he would want to see his future in the long run in Merseyside or somewhere else.
Author’s Opinion
Liverpool need to speed up the talks with Konate. He is a pivotal player and a replacement will necessarily require a heavy injection of funds in the next window.
