Man City FFP case gets a ‘damaging’ update as the case drags on

Man City FFP case received a ‘damaging’ update concerning the future of the case and the club.

At the start of last year, Manchester City were charged with accusations regarding the potential breach of FFP rules. The charges were for the breach of around 100 different rules. The probe is for the conduct of the team between 2009 and 2018.

FFP or Financial Fair Play rules define the spending of a team. These are a set of rules that a club doesn’t overspend than it earns. It is to ensure the long-term financial stability of the club so it doesn’t fall into a financial crisis and end up getting out of the league itself.

Now what this means for Manchester City is that if found guilty, the side will face heavy legal charges. These include/may include heavy fines, points deduction, transfer ban, or even expulsion from the Premier League itself.

This case has dragged on considerably long now and to make the already complicated case worse, Man City filed a case against the Premier League itself regarding the FFP case. The side campaigns to remove Associated Party Transaction (APT) rules.

This different case will be heard first somehow and if Man City wins this case, it will largely affect their FFP case. This will cause a large number of charges against the City useless.

It is expected that the case will not reach a conclusion until 2025. However, Aston Villa CEO Keith Wyness believes it could take longer than that.

Wyness afraid Man City case affects Premier League brand

Wyness has made a statement regarding the matter. The 66-year-old is highly concerned about the effects of this case:

“There are two cases – the Man City legal challenge, and the 115 charges,” Wyness told Football Insider.

“With appeals, this could drag on for another two seasons.

“This is a very tricky situation to solve, and there has to be some way that this can be got through.

“People just don’t want it to drag on, they don’t need that. It affects the Premier League brand considerably.

“Sir Jim Ratcliffe has got to think about his points about the top six having more say. Here is one of the top six potentially damaging the whole Premier League more than anything else.

“If they want that responsibility, they’ve got to show responsibility and not galivant around shouting about a European Super League. Right now, these clubs are completely absent from any leadership position.”

Earlier, Man United co-owner Ratcliffe said this about the big six:

“The Premier League need to be careful that the top six clubs are not disadvantaged, they don’t get a reasonably strong say,” Ratcliffe said.

“At the end of the day, it’s those six clubs that drive interest in the league, that’s what the world is interested in.”
