Manchester United are focused to improve their defensive line this season. In the 2023/24 season the Red Devils conceded 58 goals in Premier League. In contrast, they only scored 57 and finished the season with negative goal difference. As a result, United finished on 8th position and missed the Champions League spot. In addition, they would have missed Europa League spot too, if they had lost the FA Cup final. However, they defeated Manchester City in the final and brought home silverware. United will like to leave the 2023/24 season behind and hope to never repeat it. They are very busy in improving the defense for the next season. Red Devils are said to sign atleast two new defenders and have set their eyes on Matthijs De Ligt, Jarrad Branthwaite and Leny Yoro.
Matthijs De Ligt’s deal will be completed shortly. The personal terms have already been agreed and the Dutchman will cost United around £42 million. Bayern are prepared to part ways with the 24 year old and hence the deal is expected to be completed smoothly.
United submitted two bids for Jarrad Branthwaite until now. However Everton hace rejected both the bids. Firstly a bid of £35 million was submitted followed by another bid of £45 million plus £5 million add-ons. However, Everton are demanding £70 million for Branthwaite. United are looking to pull back from the race for Branthwaite and focus their attention on Lille’s defender Yoro.
United ready to pay higher fee for Leny Yoro
Initially, it was reported that United submitted a bid of €45 million to sign the 18 year old defender. It was also said that Lille have accepted the bid. However, Manchester Evening News have now reported that United are ready to pay €65 million for the Lille defender. This would boost the chances of English giants to sign Yoro. However, the player is not yet convinced with a move to Old Trafford.
Yoro wants to join Real Madrid. The Spanish giants want to sign Yoro on a discounted price. They have made their intentions clear that they will not trigger Leny Yoro’s €42.5 million release clause. The 18 year old defender’s current contract with Lille expires at the end of next season. Madrid are willing to pay €20 million this summer or sign him for free next year. Lille don’t want to lose their defender for free and hence are convincing Yoro to join Man United.
United are aware that the defender will choose between them or Real Madrid. The Red Devils have offered Yoro a contract until 2029 with 1 year extension option. On the other hand Madrid were reported to offer a similar contract to Yoro. Their contract will make Yoro a Madrid player until 2030. Leny Yoro needs to take decision about his future soon as United are unwilling to wait for a long time.
United’s other transfer activities till now
United have announced the signing of Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Rene Hake. Along with this dutch duo, another dutch coach is set to join Erik Ten Hag. Jelle Ten Rouwelaar is rumoured to be the new goalkeeping coach. Its all been looking dutch for United as they have now completed the signing of Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee. Zirkzee has passed the medical exam at United and will soon be announced as new United player. Zirkzee will soon be joined by his international teammate Matthijs De Ligt. The club has parted ways with Donny van de Beek. Jonny Evans has been offered a contract extension which will keep him at the club until the end of 2024/25 season.
