Manchester United have one of the most successful academy in the world. The Red Devils have produced some of the greatest players in the world over the time along with Ajax and Barcelona. United’s motive is still the same as they constantly work in improving their academy. Many graduates have represented United’s first team. Recently Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo have joined the list as they are now Erik Ten Hag’s permanent members. Recently United have offered professional contracts to four more academy talents.
United’s academy has proved a big blessing for the club. They have produced players like Sir Bobby Charlton, George Best, Duncan Edwards, David Beckham, Gary Neville, Paul Pogba, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and many more. Alejandro Garnacho became the addition to the list after he made his debut in 2022/23 season. In 2023/24 season Kobbie Mainoo emerged as an important asset for the Premier League side who has now became an inportant player for Gareth Southgate’s England. This shows that the academy is constantly producing top talents.
United making backline strong for future
The Red Devils have offered professional contract to Tom Myles and Jack Kingdon. Myles plays as goalkeeper while Kingdon plays as defender. Tom Myles was the first choice keeper for United’s under-18 side last season. Myles helped the under-18 side in winning the treble. He was able to keep 8 clean sheets in 19 league appearances. In addition, he also made 2 appearances for the under-21 side. The 18 year old keeper is often praised for his quick reflexes and brilliant ball control.
Jack Kingdon regularly started for United’s under-18 side last season. In addition, the 18 year old was captain of the team on 2 different occasions. Kingdon played an important role in winning the treble with United. He made United’s defence verg strong which resulted in their side conceding only 28 goals throughout the season in the league. According to The Mirror, United believe that Kingdon will break in the first team soon and hence have offered him a professional contract. Not only Kingdon is 6’1″ but he has great pace and is very mature when defending. He will surely be a great addition to the United side once he makes his professional debut.
Jacob Devaney signs professional contract
Jacob Devaney is 17 year old midfielder born in Yorkshire. He made 23 appearances for under-18 side in 2023/24 season and provided 4 assists. Red Devils decided to offer him a professional contract after witnessing his superb performances for their youth side.
Devaney announced his professional contract signing on his instagram account. In the caption, the 17 year old midfielder wrote ‘proud moment for me and my family to sign my first professional contract for my boyhood club’. Devaney is expected to play in under-18 side next year as well. However next year, the youngster will turn 18 years old which will earn him promotion to under-21 side atleast. In addition, he could follow Mainoo’s footsteps and introduce himself in the first team if he improves and reaches new levels.
United offer professional contract to Ashton Missin
Aston Missin is 17 years old winger who is comfortable to play on both right and left flanks of the field. Missin was promoted to under-21 side in January. The 17 year old didn’t disappoint as he found the back of the net a month later against Middlesbrough. In addition, Missin played four matches in UEFA Youth League.
To conclude, United’s future looks really sharp. Their list of succesful academy graduates seems to continue on growing. It will be interesting to see who breaks into the first team in the upcoming 2024/25 season.
