Manchester United are making big moves in the transfer market. The club has announced Dan Ashworth as the new sporting director who will be reporting to new chief executive Omar Berrada who is yet to join the club. Below Ashworth, Jason Wilcox will start his work as United’s new technical director. With all these changes in the board, the Red Devils are set for a promising transfer market. Matthijs De Ligt, Joshua Zirkzee, Manuel Ugarte and many more have been heavily linked with the club. Initially seven players were linked with away moves from United. Recently TEAMtalk reported that Bruno Fernandes who has been United’s most important player in recent years may also been on his way to Saudi. According to recent reports, United may also part ways with Marcus Rashford if they receive an offer fulfilling their demands.
Marcus Rashford has been one club player for his entire life. He has made an amazing contribution for the club on various occasions. However in the 2023/24 season the 26 year old struggled. Eventually, this resulted in Gareth Southgate not picking him up in England’s squad for Euro 2024. Unfortunately, another bad news maybe awaiting for Rashford as the Red Devils are considering to sell him this summer and even have clubs interested in him.
Clubs interested in Marcus Rashford
To begin with, Paris Saint-Germain are the club who is most interested in Rashford. PSG want to replace Kylian Mbappe who recently left the club to join Real Madrid. Losing a player like Mbappe is never easy and it will definately leave a void nearly impossible to fill. However, PSG must hope for the best and look forward towards future. The club thinks that Rashford maybe the potential replacement playing on the left flank and are prepared to make an offer of £60 million to United.
The other club who showed interest in the 26 year old forward is Arsenal. The Premier League runner-ups signed Kai Havertz last season from their London Rivals Chelsea. The German international justified his £65 million fee paid by Gunners and bagged 21 goal contributions. Mikel Arteta has been desperately looking for a striker. However signing Rashford may disturb Arsenal’s future plans due to the price demanded by Red Devils.
Rashford for United this season
Marcus Rashford began the 2023/24 season with high expectations after the superb finish to the 2022/23 season. The English international scored 30 goals and provided 9 assists across all competitions in the 2022/23 season. However the 2023/24 season was very disappointing for both Rashford and the club. The 26 year old forward lacked scoring on consistent basis. Rashford only managed to score 8 goals and provide 5 assists in the 43 appearances he made this term. Later it was revealed that Rashford was not part of Gareth Southgate’s plans for the Euro 2024. However, Rashford is determined to stay at United and is currently working hard and training regularly at Carrington.
Former Manchester United and Arsenal defender Mikael Silvestre had his say on this situation. Silvestre thinks that the Red Devils should keep Rashford as letting him go will increase the current problems. The 46 year old defender said that if United sell Marcus, they will need to go in the market and find a better player than him who will cost a lot. On the other hand, Marcus is a senior, experienced and academy product who wants to stay at the club.
Rashford who has been with Red Devils for almost a decade now has already shown what he is capable of when he is at his best. It would be interesting to see wheter he is able to redeem himself or wheter he is sold by United.
