Fabrizio Romano confirms Manchester Utd turn down chance to sign Jhon Duran, 21 year old striker.
United Reject Jhon Duran Despite Striker Hunt
Manchester United have reportedly declined the chance to bring in 21-year-old Colombian forward Jhon Duran on loan this summer, as per Fabrizio Romano.
Duran made a big move from Aston Villa to Al-Nassr for £65m in January. He has been in solid form, scoring 12 goals in just 18 appearances in the Saudi Pro League. Despite this form, Man Utd turned down an offer from Al-Nassr to sign the striker on a loan deal. The decision has raised eyebrows, especially given Utd’s clear intention to sign a new striker this transfer window.
Duran himself was open to returning to the PL and wanted to continue growing in a tougher league. The Red Devils are concentrating on attacking options at the moment. They are looking for players who fitted the style of play that new boss Ruben Amorim wants to implement.
Wages and Fit Key Reasons Behind the Decision
One of the main reasons for Man Utd’s rejection of Duran appears to be the financial terms of the deal. Al-Nassr reportedly wanted the Old Trafford side to cover the player’s full salary. His salary is around £33k per week. Now, the striker is close to joining Turkish side Fenerbahce.
The club is already managing a tight wage structure. They are willing to invest those funds into other targets like Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike. United are also reportedly close to a deal for Brentford’s star forward Bryan Mbeumo. He is seen as a better tactical fit for Amorim’s system.
Although, Duran was in top form in Saudi Arabia. But, Man Utd’s scouting team did not see him as the right long-term solution. The decision shows that the Red Devils are being more selective during this window. They are avoiding quick fixes at the moment. They are focusing on players who can be part of the club’s future.
