Former England striker Darren Bent has made some bold statements about one Arsenal star and England national team management. He has accused Gareth Southgate of lying about Ben White.
Ben White has been one of the key players for Arsenal in recent seasons. He has helped Gunners to reach their top potential and compete for the titles. He helped them to finish second in Premier League in 2 consecutive seasons.
White made his international debut for Arsenal in 2021 but has only played 4 international games so far. He was part of England squad for World Cup 2022. But he left the squad midway and ever since has not played for his country.
White was believed to have a fallout with Steve Holland who was assistant manager at that time. But the main manager Gareth Southgate said otherwise and instead told that White had made himself unavailable for selection.
Now Southgate has left the role as England manager and Thomas Tuchel is set to replace him. This is followed by the news that White is hoping to make a return to England side. This has resulted in Darren Bent making some bold statements about Southgate.
Gareth Southgate accused of lying regarding Ben White
Former England striker Dareen Bent was not shy to speak his heart out. He thinks that Southgate was dishonest and tried to throw White under the bus.
“If Ben White has made himself available for an international call up that tells me he never had an issue with playing for England. I’m pretty sure he always wanted to play for England but had a problem with Gareth Southgate and Steve Holland” – Bent speaking to talkSPORT.
Later, Ben explained how important it is to feel comfortable in working environment. He added that the Arsenal star was maybe getting targetted or mocked in front of other players and this may have resulted in him making himself unavailable to represent England.
“As soon as they’ve gone if he’s saying that he wants to be selected for England, that tells me that it’s never been about playing for his country. I’m sure if you sat him down and asked him he’d say representing his country is the highest honour you can get” – Bent making bold statements.
Lastly, Bent accused Southgate of ‘lying’. He said that England boss tried to throw White under the bus by lying. Bent said Southgate asked the people to blame player instead of him. Bent ended by saying Southgate did do a lot of good things for England but should have been more honest about White.
