Manchester City 0-2 Manchester United Post-match Analysis:
Manchester United started the game like a wounded animal. Straightway got a penalty after Gabriel Jesus fouled Martial stupidly and Bruno Fernandes just put away the penalty.
United got another opportunity to double the margin but Luke Shaw could not score off his right foot. Manchester City settled down as the game went on and had few chances but they couldn’t manage to create a proper opening.
City got the first chance of the second half but Jesus’ great lay off for Rodrigo Hernandez went wide after kissing the crossbar.
Manchester United doubled the margin, Shaw made a solo run after Joao Cancelo misjudged the ball and Shaw finished it off brilliantly. Manchester City didn’t really look like a big threat for Manchester United’s defence even though they put some pressure. But in the end, it wasn’t enough to score a goal.
Martial got a big chance to score the third goal but in one on one situation he hit straight into the goalkeeper’s hand.
Notable Performances:
Luke Shaw(LB) – (8/10)(Manchester United): Got a very difficult time against Riyad Mahrez in the first half but he sorted that out and scored a great goal and also made surging forward runs on a few occasions.
Anthony Martial(CF) – (7.5/10)(Manchester United): It hasn’t been a great season for Martial but on the night he was super. Hold up play and closing people down was very good.
Joao Cancelo(RB) – (5/10)(Manchester City): He has a great season so far but he had a very difficult night against Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw. Pep had to take him off in the second half.
Manchester City will play next against Southampton in the Premier League on Wednesday and Manchester United‘s next game is against AC Milan in the UEFA Europa League round of 16 home leg on Thursday.
