Manchester City is looking to replace Ake before approving the sale to Chelsea

Manchester City won the Premier League title for a second consecutive season in 2021/22. The citizens have now managed to win the league title in 4 out of the last 5 seasons. The league successes are down to the consistency within the squad throughout the season.

Pep Guardiola is the driving factor behind this consistency amongst his players. The manager has built a squad with deep resources in both defence and attack. A special feature of the squad is the perfect blend of specialized and versatile utility players.

The reigning Premier League champions have refreshed the squad a bit with the signings of Erling Haaland and Kalvin Phillips. The Mancunian blues have also added Julian Alvarez from River Plate to strengthen their attacking options.

Pep Guardiola has also sanctioned the sale of crucial players ahead of the next season in an attempt to build a stronger squad for the upcoming season. Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling have already left the club in this window while Nathan Ake continues to be linked with an exit.

It is understood that the club will look to sign a replacement for the Dutchman before offloading him. Chelsea has been negotiating with the champions for the transfer of the defender. However, a deal is yet to be reached between the clubs.

Manchester City wants Jules Kounde to replace Nathan Ake

It is understood that the Citizens have identified Jules Kounde from Sevilla as an adequate replacement for Ake. However, singing the Frenchman will not come cheap. The Andalusians are reported to seek £65 million for the centre-back.

Chelsea was also reported to be interested in signing the French defender, however, pulled out of the race owing to the hefty price tag. Jules Kounde is the most sought-after defender in Europe owing to his technical ability. The French defender kept 15 clean sheets in 32 La Liga games last season. Sevilla are reportedly not willing to part ways with the defender for anything less than their valuation.

It is important for Chelsea as well since their hopes of landing Ake is dependent on City’s deal to sign Kounde. As Manchester City are not willing to let Ake leave without signing a replacement.

However, it looks unlikely that Manchester City will be willing to spend £65 million to sign the defender. Thus, it will be intriguing to see how this transfer saga unfolds over the upcoming weeks.
