Football Express

Two Premier League clubs Manchester City and Chelsea will meet in the 2021 UEFA Champions League final in Estadio Do Dragao on Saturday night.

The Citizens will be experiencing their first-ever Champions League final in the history of the club. And Pep Guardiola will be managing his first final in this elite competition in a decade.

On the other hand, Chelsea have already been victorious in this competition in 2012. This will be their first Champions League final since then. After securing the top-four finish despite losing to Aston Villa on the last day of the season, Thomas Tuchel’s side will be much more relaxed before coming into this game as they are the underdog for this encounter.

Manchester City vs Chelsea Preview:

Manchester City has won almost everything under Pep Guardiola in the last few years. However, the Citizens always stumbled in the knockout stages of this competition.

This year they got a huge chance to clinch the biggest trophy in club football and fulfill the dreams of the blue half of Manchester. But, it will not be easy for them as Guardiola’s City has not been able to beat Tuchel’s Chelsea on the previous two occasions.

Manchester City will be full of confidence before coming into this game. As they have won the Premier League and English Football League Cup this season. Therefore, if City can win the Champions League then that could be three trophies this season.

Meanwhile, for the west-London side, they must be very happy to see their team in the final of the Champions League after a disastrous first half of the season. The arrival of a new manager absolutely transformed the team into a great structural side.

Tuchel has reached his objective to finish in the top four spots. As the Blues were ninth when the German took over the hottest managerial seat of English football. And now winning the Champions League will be a bonus for them this season.

Chelsea fans can be optimistic about a positive result on Saturday. As Chelsea has won two consecutive games against City since the arrival of Tuchel and Guardiola is yet to win a game against Tuchel’s Chelsea.

However, If the Blues are to beat City then they have to be clinical in front of the goal. The forwards of Chelsea can not afford to give up good chances against this Manchester City defense.

Manchester City vs Chelsea Team News:

Manchester City has very little to worry about in terms of injury issues. However, Ilkay Gundogan didn’t feature in the last game against Everton after sustaining an injury against Brighton & Hove Albion. This could be concerning for Pep.

Even though Sergio Aguero scored a brace coming off the bench against the toffees, it is very much unlike that he would make into the starting lineup. So, Tuchel should be expecting the false nine systems from Guardiola.

On the dark blue rank, there are two concerning injury problems for Tuchel. Eduoard Mendy is in doubt after picking up an injury at Villa Park on Sunday. The midfield general N’Golo Kante is also a doubt for this encounter.

Manchester City Predicted Line-up:

Ederson; Walker, Stone, Dias, Cancelo; Gundogan, Fernandinho, Silva; Foden, De Bruyne, Mahrez.

Chelsea Predicted Line-up:

Mendy; James, Silva, Rudiger; Azpilicueta, Jorginho, Kovacic, Chilwell; Pulisic, Mount, Werner

Manchester City 2-1 Chelsea

It should be a third time lucky for Guardiola against Tuchel. Chelsea has not had a great time in the last few weeks. And Manchester City is a way more superior team than Chelsea.
