Manchester City is reportedly plotting a move for Sporting CP midfielder Matheus Nunes as per the report in the Portuguese newspaper Record(via Sport Witness).
The 23-years-old has enjoyed a productive campaign this term, scoring three goals and assisting two times in 32 Primeira Liga appearances. The midfielder has seemingly helped his side in finishing second in the league and also aided his team in reaching the Champions League next season.
According to the report, Manchester City has been monitoring the player for quite some time. And they have now intensified their intention of signing the player, following his impressive display on the European stage.
The report further claims that the richest club in the world, Newcastle United is also eyeing a move for the Portugal international. And they have already tried to sign the midfielder.
Meanwhile, the 23-years-old reportedly has a €60 million release clause in his current contract. The Portuguese club will not be persuaded by any less than the said fee and they are preparing for the youngster’s departure this summer.
Will Manchester City sign Matheus Nunes this summer?
Following a disappointing exit from the Champions League, Manchester City are expected to strengthen their squad for next season. They are already linked with a move for one of the hottest prospects in world football, Erling Haaland. And they are reportedly leading the race to sign the Norwegian.
Meanwhile, they are also reportedly interested in their city rival’s outgoing midfielder Paul Pogba. The midfielder will be available for free this summer. And it could be a shrewd decision to sign the midfielder.
The midfield three of Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne, and Paul Pogba will be a mouth-watering prospect for the Citizens. With the front three of Phil Foden, Haaland, and Riyad Mahrez. So, Pep Guardiola’s side could be looking for a big summer transfer window ahead.
Meanwhile, having been eliminated from the Champions League in the semi-final. Manchester City only has the possibility of finishing the season with the Premier League title. They are currently leading the race with a one-point lead. They need to win the remaining four games to win yet another league title.
