Manchester United 0-0 Real Sociedad: UEL Post-match Analysis

Manchester United managed a goalless draw at Old Trafford against Real Sociedad in the second leg of UEFA Europa League round of 32 and they go through to the next round by aggregate of 4-0.

Mikel Oyarzabal had a penalty early in the first half to give some hope of a miracle but he missed a glorious opportunity. Axel Tuanzebe scored a headed goal and VAR disallowed the goal for foul and in the end, neither side managed to score a goal.

Real Sociedad were much better in this game and played a much lower defensive line, unlike the previous game where they played a high line and United front players utilized their pace.

Manchester United went past the challenge of Real Sociedad very easily which looked like a tricky tie at first after relegating to the UEFA Europa League from UEFA Champions League.

Manchester United 0-0 Real Sociedad post-match analysis:

Real Sociedad got a penalty very early in the game from a stupid foul by James unfortunately Oyarzabal could not manage to keep it on target.  Following this situation, La Real had another good moment from a Oyarzabal cross this time Lindelof dealt with the situation very well.

Bruno Fernandes got a good opportunity to score after goalkeeper Alex Romero was off the line but his effort came off the crossbar. Dan James had a good opportunity as well from an excellent Fernandes cross, this time James’ head brilliantly saved by Romero.

Martial took a very good shot after swivelling past his marker this time also Romero came to the rescue for Real Sociedad. Marcus Rashford replaced Bruno Fernandes in the second half and straightway took a brilliant free-kick which bamboozled the goalkeeper but unfortunately, it went wide.

Real Sociedad had another chance to score a goal and get some positive from the game but Modibo Sagnan’s head came off the frame of the goal. Tuanzebe came into the second half and scored from a corner kick with a display of excellent desire but his goal was cancelled by VAR because Lindelof made a foul before.

Notable Performances:

Nemanja Matic(CDM) – (7/10)(Manchester United): He was excellent in the midfield, made good interceptions and he was good in distribution as well.

Eric Bailly(CB) – (7/10)(Manchester United): He coped with the pace of Isak very well and once he took charge in the foot race with Isak where Lindelof looked in trouble.

Mikel Oyarzabal(LW) – (5/10)(Real Sociedad): He should have scored from the penalty and give some hope to his side but missed the chance. He was taken off after the first half.

Manchester United will face the challenge of Chelsea in their next game in Premier League on Sunday and Real Sociedad will play against Real Madrid in an away fixture in La Liga on 1st March.
