Manchester United closing in on Raphaël Varane deal

Raphaël Varane has voiced his desire to join Manchester United this summer. He has made it clear he intends to join the Red Devils during this transfer window. Varane is set on leaving and Real Madrid have seemed to accept this fact.

Manchester United has been making considerable progress on the personal side. They have managed to reach a pre-agreement for a five-year deal with the French international. According to Sport, Varane has “given his word” he will soon arrive at Old Trafford. This indicates that he could be a Red Devil should Manchester United and Real Madrid come to an agreement on a transfer fee.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has kept an eye out in the transfer market for a centre-back. He intends to find a suitable partner for Harry Maguire in defence. Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof were handed the spotlight towards the end of last season. Their performances though left a lot to be desired.

Manchester United want a defender who is first-team quality. Only a handful of players have been able to make an instant impact in the Premier League. Given the ability and experience Varane possesses, he could be just what they need.

Varane has been crucial to Real Madrid’s back-line. Shortly after his arrival from RC Lens, he was able to secure a regular spot in the starting eleven. Since then, he has established himself as one of the finest defenders in Europe, winning every major honour on offer

Real Madrid are pricing €60,000,000 for Varane. However, Manchester United are only willing to pay €45,000,000 for the French centre-back. This is significantly lower than what Manchester United had offered in 2018, after France’s World Cup win.
