Manchester United complete the signing of Dan Ashworth

Manchester United have finally completed the signing of Dan Ashworth. Ashworth will be the new sporting director of Red Devils. United were huge admirers of the 53 year old since very long. The deal has been completed and both Manchester United and NewCastle United have announced it.

Manchester United were unable to met the expectations of the fans. They finished on 8th position in the Premier League. United’s changes to achieve European spot were looking very slim. Fortunately they won the FA Cup and secured their place in Europa League. However, the club is not impressed and expecting a lot of changes.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is confident to bring the Glory days back to Old Trafford. He has been making a lot of changes in staff along with squad. The deal for Ashworth was in talking phase for months and now it has finally been completed.

Dan Ashworth becomes new sporting director of Man United

The completion of the deal has been announced on official Manchester United website. Ashworth is expected to start his role as sporting director immediately. Omar Berrada will join Ashworth later this month at Old Trafford. Berrada will work as United’s new chief executive. Jason Wilcox has joined United board too as the new academy director.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe was interested in brining Ashworth at Old Trafford for quite a while. He revealed that Newcastle made it difficult than it had to be. Newcastle demanded £20 million compensation fee. Ratcliffe called this situation completely absurd. After the completion of the deal, it was stated that the terms of the agreement reman confidential between the two clubs. Newcastle thanking Ashworth for his services wished him a bright future ahead.

Ashworth has been given the role as the head of recruitment process. The Red Devils are expected to sign some important players this market. However their most important signing will be signing of Ashworth. Ashworth has achieved a huge success in the past and he was able to recruit some of the top talents in the world. United fans will hope that the 53 year old achieves the same success at Old Trafford.

Dan Ashworth’s career

Dan Ashworth began his career as professional football player in 1989. He made 21 appearances for Eastbourne town and scored 4 goals. However his footballing career ended soon as he announced his retirement. After retiring as a player, Ashworth still continued his career in footballing field.

In 2000, Ashworth was appointed as academy director at Peterborough United. A year later, he moved to Cambridge United and took the role as centre of excellence director. In 2007, Cambridge United promoted Ashworth as their new sporting and technical director.

Ashworth continued to climb the stairs of success and was appointed as FA director of elite development in 2012. In 2018, Manchester United were linked with a move making Ashworth their technical director. It was in 2019 when Ashworth started to make a name in Premier League.

Ashworth took the post of technical director at Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion. He brought some noticeable changes to the club by his intelligent recruitment process. Newcastle United’s new owners after monitoring the success of Ashworth offered him the role of sporting director in 2022. Undoubtedly, Ashworth brought success to Newcastle with his smart operating procedure.

Over the time Ashworth signed some of the top talents for the Premier League sides. In his time at Brighton, Ashworth recruited Moises Caicedo, Marc Cucurella, Alexis Mac Allister, Kaoru Mitoma and Leandro Trossard. Later he made some important signings for Newcastle too. Ashworth recruited superstars like Alexander Isak, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon for Newcastle. His signings at Brighton were budget friendly but many of them were sold to much higher price helping Brighton earn a heavy profit.
