Manchester United favorites to sign Star Fiorentina Defender

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Manchester United are leading the race to sign the 23-years-old Serbian center-back Nikola Milenkovic from Fiorentina. Liverpool both are in for him as well considering that they are looking for a center-back in the summer transfer window.

Fiorentina signed Milenkovic from the Serbian side Partizan Belgrade in 2017 for just €5 million. He came into the spotlight in the 2018-2019 season after having a great season in Serie A

Milenkovic’s contract with Fiorentina runs until 2022, the situation is the same with Frank Ribery and both the players have turned down the negotiations to extend their contract with La Viola.

How signing Milenkovic will solve Manchester United’ problem

The Italian media is saying that the Serbian defender’s agent is in contact with The Red Devils since last summer. The player himself is willing to go to England and play in the Premier League.

The Serbian International has played 25 games in the Serie A and scored three goals this season. He scored 11 goals in his last three seasons which is a pretty good record for a center-back. His best offensive outings came last season where he scored 5 goals in the league.

The towering 6’5 defender is preferably a center-back but he can also play in the right-back position. He is mainly serving as a right-sided centre-back in back three or five in this Fiorentina side under Cesare Prandelli.

Fiorentina will ask for £30 million for their star asset who has one year in his contract. Manchester United chief executive Ed Woodward will be happy to pay the sum as it will be a cheap alternative to their other targets.

It won’t be an easy job to finalize this deal for Manchester United as they have to do it by beating Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur. Jose Mourinho was linked with Milenkovic when he was the Manchester United manager and yet again he is linked with him.
