The 28-year-old Austrian versatile defender David Alaba is looking to leave the Champions League winnerS Bayern Munich next summer.
Bayern reportedly offered Alaba a five-year deal last summer with an annual salary of around €11 million, which could have gone up to €15 million with bonuses. But the offer didn’t match what Alaba was willing to accept.
The Bavarian side felt the offer was good enough and when Alaba and his agent Pini Zahavi turned down the offer, they decided to take the offer off the table and there will be no more negotiation from Bundesliga champions.
Former Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has accused the agent of David Alaba of being “a money-grabbing piranha” amid negotiations over a new contract.
He has now only 6 months remaining in his contract and he can sign a pre-contract agreement from Jan. 1, 2021, with Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and Manchester City among the clubs reportedly interested. The reports are saying that Manchester United also entered the race to sign Alaba.
Alaba to Manchester United?
Manchester United have very much problems in defence and they have been looking for a world-class defender since the last summer.
United’s defenders aren’t good enough to take them to the next level and win titles. That’s why they are willing to go for Alaba who has won the treble last season.
Even though Alaba is not a central defender by traits but he did a super job for Munich in the absence of Niklas Sule and now everyone is going after him as a defender.
He is a fast-paced player, good with the ball, and can defend as well which are the perfect attributes what Ole Gunner Solskjær is looking for a defender to complement captain Harry Maguire and play higher up the field.
Interestingly enough David Alaba expressed his desire to play for Manchester United back in 2008 when United just won the Champions League. He said that it was his dream to play for Manchester United. But in the end, he joined Bayern Munich.
If he still dreams about playing for United or not remain to be seen but the situation in Manchester United have changed quite a lot since 2008.
There could be hope yet for United, David Alaba is leaving Munich the best club in the world at present for money problem which can give a chance for Manchester United who are one of the richest clubs.
The financial situation of Spanish clubs aren’t very good during the pandemic and Chelsea have already spent over £200 million last summer. These situations might help United to give Alaba an alluring contract and land him at Old Trafford.
It will be a battle between European big boys over David Alaba in January to sign him on a pre-contract and it will be interesting to see if Manchester United can be victorious in a transfer battle which does happen often enough.
