Manchester United keeping tabs on £60 million rated Harvey Barnes

Leicester City’s young attacker Harvey Barnes has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for Manchester United.

Manchester United were looking to sign another highly talented English forward Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund last summer, but the two clubs never reached an agreement over the fee of Sancho and the deal collapsed.

Manchester United may be looking for Harvey Barnes as the cheaper alternative to Jadon Sancho. Even though reportedly Sancho is still the first choice for Ole Gunner Solskjær and Manchester United, and they will try once more in the upcoming transfer window to land Sancho.

Harvey Barnes To Manchester United not possible?

Harvey Barnes has emerged as a first-team starter for Leicester City under the tenure of Brandon Rodgers. In the 19/20 season, Barnes played 36 matches in the league and scored 6 goals and assisted 8 times.

Barnes broke into the Leicester first-team in 2016 before heading out on loan to MK Dons, Barnsley and West Brom.

The 22-year-old has been in impressive form for Brendan Rodgers’s side during the 2020-21 campaign, scoring five times in 15 appearances, including three Premier League goals from a wide position. The Englishman has scored 13 times and contributed 12 assists in 79 appearances for the Foxes.

Barnes made his debut for England in a 3-0 win over Wales in October, where he was substituted for Jack Grealish in the 76th minutes.

Manchester United’s vision of buying young hungry homegrown talents matches the profile of Barnes as he is only 22-years-old. According to reports, United manager Ole Gunner Solskjær is an admirer of the England international and has been keeping an eye on the attacker’s form this season.

It won’t be an easy task for the Red Devils to buy Harvey Barnes from Leicester. Leicester reportedly has no intention of selling Barnes in January and have placed a £60 million valuation on his shoulders in the hope of shutting down interest from the 20-time English champions.

Leicester City is not a team that will give up their star players without a huge fee. Manchester United already had their lesson when they tried to sign Harry Maguire. In the end, United had to pay £80 million what Leicester asked from the beginning. So, it won’t be cheap to buy Barnes from Leicester.

Leicester City has had a pretty good start in the league this season, they are fourth in the league, they got 18 points from 10 matches and only 3 points off from the top of the table.

Manchester United is sitting 9th currently, they have 16 points from 9 matches and they’ve played one less due to late Europa League involvement last season and only 5 points off from the league leader Tottenham Hotspurs.

It will be interesting to see if United go for Barnes or Sancho in the upcoming transfer windows.
