Manchester United look to fix the defensive void

Manchester United is one of the best teams in the world when it comes to the history of the club. In recent times, their players have not been able to replicate the same magic as their legends. They were consistent champions during the Alex Ferguson era, but they have not touched the Premier League trophy in 10 years. Many fans speculate for many reasons; some would blame the management for poor decision-making, while others blame the coaching staff. However, with recent events playing around the club, the main reason might have been spotted.

Many Manchester United players suffer from injuries regularly. Luke Shaw, who is not only Manchester United’s but also England’s left-back, has been absent. He has not only been absent for a long period but also missed out on many important games. This has created a lot of mismatches in the United back line. Erik Ten Hag has a lot of trouble trying to play a defender in his position. His contribution on the field has been very essential for Manchester United in recent years. Luke only played in 12 Premier League games last season.

Meanwhile, Shaw’s backup, Tyrell Malacia, was also not playing in red. Reports have said that he has suffered injuries that have kept him out for 11 months. Both players are good fullbacks, and their absence has been a problem for Manchester United. Old Trafford has not seen the Premier League trophy in over 10 years. Keeping this in mind, the Dutch manager may have found the perfect replacement.

Manchester United’s next fullback?

Milos Kerkez of Bournemouth is suspected to be the next target to join Old Trafford. His team was recently promoted to the Premier League and finished in 12th place. Having made a made a total of 28 appearances for the club and defended beautifully for them. The Hungarian football player has played 33 games for his club in total. His defensive skills and pace will be something Ten Hag would love to work around and develop.

Manchester United recently secured European football by winning the Federation Association Cup. They beat rivals Manchester City 2-1. This booked their tickets to the Europa League. This may play out as an advantage for the Reds in convincing the player to join them. Every player wants to play European football and gain exposure. If United promise the correct minutes to play, then the youngster will consider the move.

Sports journalist Fabrizio Romano recently added

“Manchester United’s interest is genuine, so I think Kerkez could be one of the options, but not the only one, from what I have heard. They are also assessing other options. I think they’re waiting to see what happens with any other opportunities in the market for that position, and then they will decide. But left-back is another position they want to cover for this summer.”

Italian legend Paulo Maldini has also praised the youngster. During his days at AC Milan, Maldini even tried to convince the youngster to stay. He left Milan because he was not getting regular time over there. He then played in the Dutch League for some time before moving to England. Moving to United might turn out to be a risky move. However, if he is used properly, he will become one of the best players in the team. Transferring to Old Trafford has made many careers; however, it has broken many careers as well. Will the youngster take this gamble or will he stay put where he is? A return to Italy might also be possible very soon.
