Premier League giants Manchester United are pursuing options to sign English full back Ben Chilwell from Chelsea.
The Red devils are exploting options to get their hands on Chelsea outcast Ben Chilwell as the Summer transfer window closes in a weeks time. The English man has been deemed unfit for the Chelsea system Enzo Maresca has been building and is expected to move away from Stamford Bridge. The new Chelsea manager was seen publicly expressing his doubts about Chilwell. This will add itself to another experienced player pushed out after Connor Gallagher’s recent move to Atletico Madrid. This is also a starting to the mass exits from Chelsea before the summer window closes.
CHELSEA AND CHILWELL
Ben Chilwell joined the Blues towards the end of August in 2020 from Leicester City for a reported fee of 45 million pounds. He was already nursing a slight foot injury which he had sustained with Leicester. It delayed his debut until the end of September that year against Burnley in the EFL Cup. In his first league start he scored and assisted against Crystal Palace. He was also a crucial part of the Chelsea team that won the UEFA Champions League in 2021 under Thomas Tuchel. The English man made around 42 appearences during his first season.
Despite a promising start to his Chelsea life injuries have made him a liability for his team at times. Severe injuries have left him out for significant time period and limited his playing time at the Bridge. An ACL injury kept him out for almost te entire 2021-22 campaign. Hamstring injuries and Knee problems have knocked have arrived like mansoon rains. Chilwell is one of the long standing players in the current Chelsea team. In his four years at the club the English man made 70 appearences and scored 8 goals.
TIME IS UP AT CHELSEA
Chilwell’s time at Chelsea is ticking down and likely to end before window closes. Marc Cucurella had a brilliant Euro campaign and likely to cement his position as the first choise left back. Despite being part of the pre-season squad Chilwell featured for just 67 minutes throughout the six matches. He didn’t even play in the final three pre-season matches. This explicitely shows that Chilwell has falled out of favour for the new Chelsea manager. As per the highly reliable sources of BBC‘s Nizaar Kinsella, Enzo Maresca clearly sees the English man out of the project. The manager clearly came out saying he is a misfit for his style of play. And he went to say that Chilwell can leave the club and find minutes elsewhere.
The quoted words from BBC Sport article says eventhough he liked the person in Ben Chilwell it is hard to find a position suitable for him. So it would be better if he goes. It is more likely that we have seen Chilwell play his last minutes for the club he is currently the vise-captain.
MANCHESTER UNITED INTEREST
The high possibility of the 27 year old moving away from Stamford Bridge has triggered a few interests from the Premier League. Manchester United are among the clubs interested in signing Ben Chilwell this summer. The Red Devils were linked with the full back earlier this window. But this time it looks like Manchester United have recieved the green light for the transfer. They are looking to bolster their options in the full back positions because of recent injury concerns. But again Chilwell has suffered with injuries at Chelsea. He is prone to injuries as well. Bringing an injury prone player to an already injury prone area for Manchester United raises some concerns.
