Manchester United have been very busy since the opening of transfer market. The club is making big moves to win the Premier League for the first time after 12 years. Erik Ten Hag is focused on improving the squad. He is working hard with United board to sign top talents. United entered the transfer market with an idea of signing defender, midfielder, striker and right winger. However they noticed the problems at left back position and hence are now linked to Ferdi Kadioglu. In the midfield department, United were focusing on player who is defensive minded. Joao Neves and Manuel Ugarte were linked with a move to Old Trafford. However, signing Neves is proving extremely hard for Red Devils. Manchester United have now shifted all their focus on Ugarte and may soon complete the deal.
Matthijs De Ligt joining his former coach Erik Ten Hag is considered only as a matter of time. His Dutch teammate, Joshua Zirkzee has already joined United and may be announced soon. It has been reported that United will pay a fee slightly more than the Dutch striker’s £34 million release clause with a three year installment plan. While two positions are sorted, the Red Devils may go for another defender with Jarrad Branthwaite and Leny Yoro in sight. However, now United’s priority is on midfielder.
Man United take brilliant decision
Manchester United were heavily linked with Joao Neves. The club was reported very interested in Portugese talent and even submitted two bids to Benfica. Firstly, Red Devils submitted a bid of €50 million which was quickly rejected by Benfica. Later another improved bid of €60 million was submitted which too was rejected. Benfica’s president Rui Costa made it clear that they are unwilling to sell Joao Neves. In addition, it was revealed that the only way to sign Neves is by triggering his enormous €120 million release clause.
Recently, United have withdrawn from the race to sign Portugese international. They have given up due to the heavy fee and now are focusing on Manuel Ugarte. Along with United, Paris Saint-Germain were also interested in Joao Neves. Now, after signing Neves, PSG could part ways with Ugarte which will be good for Manchester United. The sale of Ugarte will generate PSG enough funds to go all out for Neves. PSG have even submitted a bid of €70 million for the 19 year old and are waiting for Benfica’s reply.
PSG played with the midfield trio of Fabian Ruiz, Vitinha and Warren Zaire-Emery which reduced Ugarte’s play time last season. Ugarte may not be a crucial player in Luis Enrique’s plans and hence may move away from Parc des Princes.
Manchester United turn all their attention on Manuel Ugarte
Now with the Neves deal completely closed, United have shifted all their attention on Manuel Ugarte. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano that signing Manuel Ugarte is the easiest option for Red Devils. In addition, the Italian journalist said that Ugarte is keen to move to Manchester just like De Ligt and Zirkzee even without Champions League football.
“He didn’t have an easy second part of the season at PSG, Luis Enrique was not using him so much, so the idea of Manuel Ugarte trying a different experience, if he has the possibility to go to Premier League, he’s keen on that possibility” – Fabrizio Romano speaking to GiveMeSport.
Manuel Ugarte if arrives at Manchester United will be paired with Kobbie Mainoo. Ugarte will be given a deeper midfield role similar to that of Casemiro which will provide Mainoo with the freedom to move forward and help the team in attacking. Casemiro may be sold by the Red Devils as the brazilian has not been able to reach the level he was at Real Madrid.
